I passed that discarded carton on the footpath walking through Ashbourne early this morning — I did not think of ice cream trucks. And if you are a parent of a tween or teen – you NEED to know what I know about nitrous oxide.

Look, as a doctor of teen patients, I know they make some bad choices. Tweens and teens sometimes do dumb things. 100%. And I’m always here for my teen patients who make the poor choices -mostly to help them survive unscathed make safer ones next time. Mostly, to make sure they have a next time.

*No teen deserves to die or have a life-changing effects from an ill-advised life choice.*

As parents, teachers, coaches, doctors…. our job is to guide kids through to an age they look back and laugh with us about some of their poor life choices.

What you need to know is that: 1) yes, your kid can find it easily and 2) it is not harmless, and can cause serious injury, including paralysis and death
