Ask your doctor today if turning off arguing politicians on the radio is right for you.

I actually do this. I like to catch news headlines on my commute – but often switch from talk radio and news to RTÉ lyric fm when it descends into TDs and ministers shouting over themselves or the journalists.

If I am not learning more about a topic – whether it’s climate or housing or healthcare – and the radio broadcast has decended into arguming, blaming, lamenting hopelessness, or predicting doom – it’s a cue to change the channel.

Stress is bad for our health, and it’s everywhere.

We can’t eliminate it, but when it comes to media and social media, we can be selective about what we consume – and be aware of its effect on us.

Are you being informed or agitated?

Turning off stressful media can reduce blood pressure, slow breathing, and reduce anxiety. Side effects may include Marty’s dad jokes.
