“My 10 year daughter plays a lot sport and the time as come for deodorant. Any advice for what products would be suitable for her age group?”
Technically, any product will work. There are companies that market products specifically to children, pre-teen or teen consumers. There are other “natural” or “organic” companies that market to adolescent parents, with fewer additives. Like with all skin products, if your daughter has very sensitive skin, you can look for a product that is for sensitive skin. Your chemist can help you. Most parenting or health blog sites that compare children’s deodorants and similar products are advertising or in some way compensated for promoting the products through an affiliate programme, so be aware of that when you google this sort of question.
Most children start to need deodorant between ages 9 and 14. This is also the age where you should have a conversation with your son or daughter about good hygiene: clean underwear and socks, careful attention when showering, etc. (wet doesn’t actually equal clean) It is more common that it should be for doctors and nurses to see adolescents/young adults with filth between their toes and fuzzy belly buttons.
Label reading and #mythbusting: The angle that many “natural” products market is “aluminium free”. Do you need this? Your choice. This is very popular, but no actual evidence to back up that aluminium from skin care products is harmful. Deodorants only cover up sweat/body odours. Antiperspirant products will also reduce sweating. And no, you don’t need to “sweat out toxins”. Toxins are removed from your body by your kidneys and liver
