A patient sent me this meme – and I love it. See, I’ve been struggling lately with Dr. ChatGPT: I’ve had patients arrive with medical information and diagnosis or plans — all courtesy of Dr. ChatGPT.
Unfortunately, Dr. ChatGPT has imagined non-existent patient services or suggested patient needs an experimental tests designed for laboratories – not patient care. Let’s not even talk about the list of diagnoses!
And, like his colleague Dr. Google, Dr. ChatGPT can also be quite overly-dramatic: every symptom must be a sign of cancer or other deadly disease, some of which are quite rare in Ireland.
As AI roles out, it will undoubtedly have a role in medicine – hopefully streamlining the more mundane tasks.
In the meantime:
Talk to your human pharmacist if you have questions about your tablets.
Talk to your human GP practice nurse if you are struggling with your asthma plan.
And please, please make an appointment with your human doctor if you are worried about a new symptom or change in your health.
