Gratitude practice is an essential evidence-based element of positive psychology (and part my personal parenting philosophy), but the “Thank you self” – do we remember to do it?
I got self-care lessons from 3 y.o. C. at lunch today on my day off:
C: “Thank you for lovely lunch.” (He’s enthusiastic about please and thank you lately.)
Me: “You’re welcome”
C: “No, you say ‘Thank you’ to you-self for making good lunch.”
Me:
C.: “say thank you you-self”
Me: “Thank you self”
C: *very satisfied with my effort* “now we go school”
On way back from dropping him to naíonra, I wonder – not for the first time – if he has already figured out life more in his only 3 years than I have in the last 40. Why not acknowledge our efforts when we do the healthy thing for ourselves?
