Have you read Dr. Jen Gunter’s books? Highly Recommend!

There are alot of reasons that I am a fan of Dr. Jen Gunter – author, gynaecologist, mythbuster extraordinaire, and fierce advocate for women’s health.

Her most recent book on science of menstruation “Blood” is excellent and out now. Highly recommended reading. This follows her other excellent books “The Vagina Bible” and “Menopause Manifesto”.

A great deal of health misinformation is targeted directly at women (fertility, motherhood, menstruation, menopause). Much of it is predatory and for-profit from the wellness industry. Poor health literacy translates directly to poorer health outcomes.

Real empowerment comes from knowledge and correct facts, real information.

The idea that “doctors don’t want you to know” a natural or alternative treatment or secret to wellness might make sense if we were in another country – where it might be possible that doctors or healthcare facilities were looking for business, or in a country where drug prices are so uncontrolled that patients can’t afford their insulin.

But as I remind my patients here: The HSE aren’t looking for business, and private healthcare here has significant waiting lists due to shortage of allied health professionals and doctors. Medical misinformation harms, and getting the correct facts is so important.

You can also follow Dr. Gunter on social media @drjengunter or catch-up on her substack: The Vajenda.

Is there anything negative I can say about this book? Yes: Her book tour (on now) includes UK/London in March — but no stops in Ireland scheduled [yet?]
