“I’m too pasty.”

Ok, too pasty for what, exactly?

In an age of body positivity, the trend that we are really due is #OwnYourTone.

If your skin is white after a winter under a jumper, you’re not “pasty”. You are pure porcelain perfection – and you just go ahead and own that delicate, pale look.

Why aren’t more of us asking why we aren’t happy with our skin colour – whatever colour it might be?

While fake tan may be only dangerous to your white sheets, the continuing trend to look “sun-kissed” still means there are many who risk premature aging and skin cancer by tanning. And more worrying, despite numerous health warnings and advisories, the product Melanotan is still out there as well.

You are already beautiful the way you are. Pale or dark or any shade in between.

Beauty treatments of any sort should be a way to celebrate yourself or feel your best:   It should never involve risking your health in anyway.

Stay beautiful and skip the UV damage: don’t forget the sunscreen tomorrow!

Healthy skin this summer:

1. Never, ever use a sunbed (there is no such thing as a “base tan” preventing further damage)

2. Even one blistering sunburn doubles your risk of skin cancer, the most common cancer in Ireland. Be sun smart: grab those hats, shades, and slap on the sunscreen.

3. Never, ever use Melotan products that are unlicense, illegal and unregulated – despite being widely sold. It has been linked to numerous side effects.

Healthy you this summer: Love your body. You only ever get one: take care of it. Love the skin you’re in.
