What I am NOT going to watch on TV

My TV suggested I might want to watch this tomorrow.
I do not.
I have no desire to have a visceral response to flashbacks from willfully repressed memories of shifts back in 2007 that started Friday mornings and ended Monday nights.
From books “House of God” (Shem, 1978) to “Bodies”(Mercurio, 2002) to “This is Going to Hurt” (Kay, 2017): documenting in black humour the moral injury that is accepted as part of medical training.
Both Kay and Mercurio, it should be noted, left medicine. Dr. Shem became a psychiatrist.
Irish doctors have also written books for popular market — though predominantly these are (sanitised) memoires penned when consultants retire, more reflective (occasionally throwing a little subtle score-settling shade) but rarely revealing or challenging the system they have exited gracefully.
If you have the inclination and haven’t read his work, it is an interesting (despite fictionalised) way to understand an important factor underlying the emigration, doctor shortage, and waitlists — without having to work a 97 hours week.
If you need lighter fare, check out some of  @amateuradam ‘s early work: #Paracetamoxyfrusebendroneomycin
