September is PCOS awareness month.  PCOS = Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

5 things to know about pcos?

1. As many as 10-20% of women in Ireland may have PCOS.

2. PCOS can cause problems with hormones, fertility, or periods in childbearing years.  PCOS can also cause:

          • insulin resistance

          • High cholesterol

          • Increased risk of heart disease

3. PCOS does not end at menopause:  PCOS can increase lifetime risk of diabetes, depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol.

4. PCOS symptoms and risks can be treated with medication.

5. Multiple studies have found that evidence-based lifestyle changes can also make a huge difference for patients with pcos!
