Lá Fhéile Pádraig. My day started with pre-schooler T. keen to come to work with me to fix everyone with “the bad germ.” He even put on a pair of my old scrubs “doctor clothes” early this morning.
Today was first day in my new job in a unit responding to #covid19. It was among the more surreal #stpatricksday s I’ve ever spent. How about yours?
I was amazed by the team I met today.I can tell you though the response of every one of my colleagues out there today has been amazing: ambulance staff, nursing, clerical, GPs, hospital docs, security, catering, cleaners, administrators, lab techs: you’d never know they were in on a bank holiday, responding to am emergency with patients who were understandably anxious, having to adjust ever-changing protocols to changing needs and resource demands.
Tough ask, but everyone of them answered the call. And not just medical services – from bus drivers getting us to work to delivery services stocking stores to gardaí to defense forces aiding contact tracing.
Tonight, if you’re still anxious, it’s understandable. It isn’t easy, but never a better day to be proud to be Irish and trust that together we can do this.
Want to help? Nothing of this matters if we all don’t do our part.
