If you follow me, you know I’ve debunked alot of marketing and myths around
supplements and
detox.January is peak wellness, so before you starting spending €€€ for those pills and powders, let’s check some facts.
The facts is that supplements can’t really help you to lose weight or balance hormones. And you don’t need a detox. Got working kidneys? Got functioning liver? Detox done.
As I say to my patients routinely in a public clinic:
“I’m not sure you’ve noticed but docs aren’t looking for business. How long were you on the waiting list? If we thought that anything in [popular vitamin shop] would work, we’d be the first to send you there.”
But as it is, the stuff we recommed is the stuff that is both harder – and easier – than more powders and pills: eat well, stay active, get sleep, manage your stress. And while it’s hard to do, you can’t bottle a shortcut. (Heck, if it did work that way, I’d write the proposal myself to suggest the supplement-slingers have a pop-up shop in the A&E waiting room…)
All this week, I’m debunking and mythbusting wellness woo and New Year’s resolutions.
