Did you know?  The term “square meals” is often assumed to have originated from the British Navy when sailors were served food on wooden trenchers.  Not much evidence for this urban myth.   It seems that the term didn’t actually exist until later in the 19th century in US and specifically referred to a substantial meal that included “articles of sustenance” (for example, vegetables, carbs,  protein).”
