You are pH-abulous already!

Top tip of the day: Your lungs and kidneys have an amazing pathway that keeps your blood/body very tightly controlled at a pH of 7.35 – 7.45. Below 7.2 and above 7.6 will quickly land you in an ICU, and at these levels, is rarely compatible with life unless corrected quickly.

Diets, supplements, and blood tests or alternative treatments to cure cancer or any other number of ailments through alkalosis are all #pseudoscience. It cannot work, even if they feed you ocean water (yes, it’s a thing. Really bad idea, but someone is not only telling patients do it, they are charging them. I mean, serious marketing credit to a practitioner who found a way to sell ocean water to people who live on an island 🤦‍♀️). Also, any doc or nurse will tell you: the only blood test that can measure your body’s pH is an arterial blood test, not like the usual ones taken from the vein. (We only do it when patients are very sick, or we are worried about serious problems like diabetic complications, blood clot in lungs, or a patient in ICU. If any mammies here have ever had one, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget – ouch!)

Quick test: Are you breathing? Do you feel relatively well — as in, not in a coma? Trust your body pH is probably around the 7.4 mark. Like detox, your kidneys have this covered with no additional help.

Based on what you eat, you may see changes in the pH of your saliva or urine because these are waste products, but there’s no way you could ever eat enough that it really impacts your blood. Those changes are natural and everyday, but can be exploited by unethical practitioners to “prove” their treatments work.
